About Us
What is Francis House
Francis House is a resource and counseling center for the poor supported by seventeen churches and the community at large. All too often, we provide the last hope for those disenfranchised from the main stream of society. Anyone in need is welcomed with a warm cup of coffee and a dose of compassion. Our counseling is much like you would experience with a friend who was having difficulties; listen first, then help problem solve their dilemma. This could include something as simple as a referral to a food closet, providing a motel voucher or as complex as advocacy for a client in the Welfare system.
Each year, around 30,000 men, women and children receive personal attention for their problems. The majority of all Francis House resources are distributed directly to the poor in the form of vouchers for emergency transportation, shelter and identification, or used to provide direct counseling and hospitality services.
Many things illustrate the difference that Francis House makes in the lives of men, women and children in need of our help. Statistics are often used to measure an agency’s success and we at Francis House are encouraged by the number of people in jobs or in permanent housing due to our efforts. But we also gauge our success by the little things, like smiles, appreciative words and expressions of hope. For some of our clients such things are miracles. For others who can do more we expect more – sobriety, responsibility, hard work and ultimately self-sufficiency.
Through the generous support of our community, we will continue to serve the neediest among us with compassion, love and hope.
